13:1Then I stood on the sand of the sea. I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads.I saw a beast coming up out of the sea-On his horns were ten crowns, and on his heads, blasphemous names. 13:2The beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 13:3One of his heads looked like it had been wounded fatally. His fatal wound was healed, and the whole eretz marveled at the beast. 13:4They worshiped the dragon, because he gave his authority to the beast, and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" 13:5A mouth speaking great things and blasphemy was given to him. Authority to make war for forty-two months was given to him. 13:6He opened his mouth for blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his dwelling, those who dwell in heaven. 13:7It was given to him to make war with the holy ones, and to overcome them. Authority over every tribe, people, language, and nation was given to him. 13:8All who dwell on the eretz will worship him, everyone whose name has not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world. 13:9If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 13:10If anyone has captivity, he will go. If anyone is with the sword, he must be killed. Here is the endurance and the faith of the holy ones.
And it shall come to pass when all is accomplished that was to come to pass in those parts, that the Messiah shall then begin to be revealed. And Behemoth shall be revealed from his place and Leviathan shall ascend from the sea, those two great monsters which I created on the fifth day of creation, and shall have kept until that time; and then they shall be for food for all that are left.
2 Baruch 29:3-4, Syriac Apocalypse
13:11I saw another beast coming up out of the eretz. And on that day were two monsters parted, a female monster named Leviathan, to dwell in the abysses of the ocean over the fountains of the waters. But the male is named Behemoth, who occupied with his breast a waste wilderness named Duidain, on the east of the garden where the elect and righteous dwell, where my grandfather was taken up, the seventh from Adam, the first 9 man whom the Lord of Spirits created. And I besought the other angel that he should show me the might of those monsters, how they were parted on one day and cast, the one into the abysses of the sea, and the other unto the dry land of the wilderness. And he said to me: ' Thou son of man, herein thou dost seek to know what is hidden.'He had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke like a dragon. 13:12He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence. He makes the eretz and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed. 13:13He performs great signs, even making fire come down out of the sky to the eretz in the sight of people. 13:14He deceives my own people who dwell on the eretz because of the signs he was granted to do in front of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the eretz, that they should make an image to the beast who had the sword wound and lived.
1 Enoch 60:7-10, Ethiopic Apocalypse
"Then thou didst keep in existence two living creatures; the name of one thou didst call Behemoth and the name of the other Leviathan. And thou didst separate one from the other, for the seventh part where the water had been gathered together could not hold them both. And thou didst give Behemoth one of the parts which had been dried up on the third day, to live in it, where there are a
thousand mountains; but to Leviathan thou didst give the seventh part, the watery part; and thou hast kept them to be eaten by whom thou wilt, and when thou wilt. "
4 Ezra/2 Esdras 6:49-52He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance to the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood. And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain. Then he said to me, "Son of man, look toward the north." So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.13:15It was given to him to give breath to it, to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as wouldn't worship the image of the beast to be killed. 13:16He causes all, the small and the great, the rich and the poor, and the free and the slave, to be given marks on their right hands, or on their foreheads; 13:17and that no one would be able to buy or to sell, unless he has that mark, the name of the beast or the number of his name. 13:18Here is wisdom. He who has understanding, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is six hundred sixty-six.
